Wine tastings at Cave Elzevir for Anglo-Americans in Paris
2011-02-08
While it is increasingly impossible to deny the immense progress that has been achieved in various foreign wine producing countries over the last thirty years or so, France is still widely recognized as a major reference point for quality-oriented winemaking. One could perhaps even go so far as to say that no wine initiation class failing to start with the wines of France could be taken seriously. What’s more, France is home to a profusion of distinctively diverse and bargain-priced wines that are consistently rendered by quality-conscious growers, with a new generation taking over. However, one must recognize that French wines aren’t the easiest ones to grasp for the unprepared, for they require a thorough understanding of the concepts and mentality that underlie vineyard classifications.
